A one-of-one custom figure as a gift
The most personal gift a collector can receive: a figure made once, for them. What to prepare, how far ahead to start, and how to keep it a surprise.
1. Why it works as a gift
A custom figure is a gift nobody else can give, because the piece itself exists only once. For a collector, it says you paid attention: their favorite character, the exact costume version they love, a pose from the scene they quote. Factory figures are bought; a one-of-one piece is made for them.
It suits milestones: birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or a thank-you that needs weight. The completed projects show the range collectors commission, from anime icons to original designs.
2. Start months before you need it
A full commission takes two to three months of production, and the studio schedule decides when your slot starts — so begin the conversation at least four months before the occasion. Mention the date in your very first message; a deadline the studio knows about can be planned for.
Insured international delivery adds weeks after the piece is finished, so plan for the arrival date, not the completion date. Rush requests near a deadline can sometimes be accommodated, but never assume it.
3. What you need to prepare
You need the recipient's favorite character and version, reference images of the pose or look you want, and a sense of the display space they have. Screenshots from their favorite scene work well — if you know the exact moment, the studio can build toward it.
You do not need to know sculpting terminology. A clear description of who the gift is for and why this character matters is more useful than technical detail. The studio's private proposal turns your idea into a build plan.
4. Surprise or collaboration?
A full surprise is possible: you handle the references and approvals yourself, and the piece arrives as a reveal. This works best when you know the recipient's taste precisely — the exact version, the exact look.
If you are unsure about details, consider a partial reveal: tell them a commission is coming and let them weigh in on the pose or base. You keep the occasion a surprise while they get the piece they actually want. Either way, keep the deadline visible to the studio from day one.
5. Delivery and the handoff
Pieces ship packed and insured, and delivery can be arranged to your address or directly to the recipient. If it ships to you first, keep the original packing until the gift is delivered — it is designed for the piece.
